Setting appropriate units for J codes
J codes may cover the supply, injection or infusion of a drug or biological. HCPCS J codes typically includes drugs that cannot self-administered, are reasonable and necessary for the treatment of the injury or illness and considered effective by the FDA, among other requirements. The milligrams are set by the HCPCS and cannot be changed or modified in WRS.
A user must change the units, listed under the modifier fields, in the Orders & Procedures section, to calculate the appropriate dose given.
